SMSU Wrestling Announces Two More Signings

MARSHALL, MINN.: Southwest Minnesota State University head wrestling coach Jesse Nelson announced on Wednesday that Adam (A.J.) Jenniges from Wabasso, Minn., and Robert Morris from Luther, Mich., have signed a letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at SMSU.

The two signees are the 19th and 20th high school or college transfer student-athletes that have signed with SMSU for the 2008-09 season.

Jenniges is a 2008 graduate of Wabasso High School and finished his high school career as a four-time state place winner including earning a Class 1A state championship as a freshman in 2005 at 103 lb.  He finished third at 119 lb. in 2006 (1A), fifth at 125 lb. in 2007 (1A), before earning sixth place at 130 lb. this past season in Class AA.  A six-time letterwinner, he ended his career with over 200 wins and was named the KNUJ radio wrestler of the year in 2007. 

“We are very excited about AJ becoming a Mustang and being an area athlete,” Nelson said.  “AJ is a hard working and motivated young man.  I believe that he could be a good college wrestler with his work ethic and attitude. It will be fun to watch him develop as a college wrestler.”

Morris is a 2008 graduate of Pine River High School in LeRoy, Mich., and finished his senior season as a state runner-up in Division 4 at 130 lb.  A four-year letterwinner, Morris was also a three-time conference champion and a two-time all-state honoree.  He was also a four-year letterwinner in football and track. 

“Robert is a very talented wrestler that comes to us highly recommended,” Nelson said.  “He had an outstanding senior year with a record of 50-1 finishing as a state runner-up in the Michigan state tournament. The thing that I really like about Robert is his attitude and personality he will be a great fit at SMSU.”

Southwest Minnesota State, located in Marshall, Minn., is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
