No. 12 SMSU Volleyball 3-1 Winners Over Dowling (N.Y.)

FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA.: 
Senior Laura Hegerle and freshman Devin Diedrich combined for 27 kills to lead the No. 12 ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18) victory over Dowling (N.Y.) at the Nova Southeastern Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs improve to 3-1; the Golden Lions are now 1-3.

Hegerle had a stellar .500 hitting percentage and for the fourth straight match led SMSU in kills with a match-high 16.  The outside hitter also had  a team-high 12 digs.

Diedrich recorded a career-high 11 kills in her fourth ever collegiate match.

Junior setter Sara Graf recorded a match-high 45 assists, one more than Dowling's team total in the category.

The Mustangs posted a .306 hitting percentage for the match, struggling in their second set loss with eight attack errors and a .065 hitting percentage.  SMSU was over .300 for its remaining sets.

SMSU commited a season-high 14 service errors in the match.

The Mustangs rattled off four unanswered points in the final set to secure the win.

This was the final match at the Nova Southeastern Classic for the Mustangs; they are back in action next weekend at the Colorado-Colorado Springs Classic where SMSU will play another four matches in two days.
