MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State University senior football player
Matt Carmody has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division second team.
The College Division District V team consists of student-athletes from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA schools from the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana and was voted upon by sports information directors in the district.
It's the third straight season SMSU football has had a student-athlete named all-district and the fifth during Eric Eidsness' six-year tenure as head coach.
Carmody, a 6-foot-3, 267-pound defensive lineman from Pipestone, Minn., has compiled a 3.72 GPA while majoring in exercise science. He has started all 10 games this season and ranks seventh on the team with 37 tackles, including three for loss. He also has recorded two sacks, two fumble recoveries and forced one fumble. A four-year letterwinner at SMSU, Carmody has never missed in a game in his career and has started 32 consecutive games since 2007, recording 128 career tackles.
Southwest Minnesota State University, 4-6 overall, 3-6 NSIC, concludes the 2009 season on Saturday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead at 1 p.m. at SMSU's Regional Event Center.
