Jake Avre enters his third season as Jesse Nelson's top assistant in the SMSU wrestling program in 2010-11.
   
A native of Cambridge, Minn., Avre brings a plethora of coaching experience to SMSU.  He has spent the last eight years coaching at the high school level, working as an assistant coach at St. Thomas Academy, Centennial High School and Forest Lake High School.  During his tenure at the high school ranks, Avre coached seven state tournament entrants, two placewinners and one state champion.  He has also served as a coach for the Pinnacle Wrestling Club and as a counselor for J Robinson wrestling camps.
   
Avre wrestled for the University of Minnesota during its 2001 and 2002 Big Ten and national championship seasons.  He graduated from Minnesota in 2007 with a degree in business and marketing education.

Avre resides in Marshall and is currently pursuing his master's degree in sports leadership at SMSU.
