EMPORIA, KAN.: Southwest Minnesota State University senior relief pitcher
Brandon Wilhelmi has been named to the 2008 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Central Region second team. He is the second SMSU player this spring to earn all-region honors. Junior second baseman was named first team Daktronics All-Region last week.
Wilhelmi, a native of Clements, Minn., finished the 2008 season a 4-0 record with four saves while appearing in a team-high 20 games. He finished with a 3.00 ERA allowing 10 earned runs in 30 innings while recording 23 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .261 batting average.
Wilhelmi, a 2004 graduate of Springfield High School, ended his career at SMSU with a 7-0 record with six saves. His 48 career appearances ranks tied for third all-time at SMSU while his 2.86 walks allowed per nine innings ranks eighth best in school history.
Wilhelmi is the 14th SMSU player in school history to be named NCAA Division II all-region since the program moved to NCAA II in 1995. He is the 12th player at SMSU to earn ABCA all-region honors.
Southwest Minnesota State University is a member of NCAA Division II and is located in Marshall, Minn. SMSU finished the 2008 season 24-20 overall and finished fourth in the NSIC with a record of 14-12.
