Four Mustangs Named All-NSIC; Wilhelmi Earns First Team Honors


ST. PAUL, MINN.: Southwest Minnesota State University senior relief pitcher Brandon Wilhelmi has been named first team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while senior Lex Reinke, junior Greg Laughlin and sophomore Jared Pick were named second team All-NSIC as voted by the nine head coaches of the conference.  

The announcement came today from the conference office in St. Paul, Minn.

Wilhelmi, a right-handed pitcher from Clements, Minn., earns all-conference honors for the first time in his career.  He finished the regular season 4-0 with four saves and a 2.70 ERA in a team-high 19 appearances.  In 26.2 innings pitched he has allowed eight earned runs while striking out 22 batters.  

Reinke, a shortstop from Shoreview, Minn., earns second team honors for the second straight season.  Reinke batted .309 during the regular season with nine doubles, three home runs and one triple while ranking third on the team with 29 RBI.  For his career he ranks sixth in school history in hits (186) and eighth in doubles (36).  Reinke also earned second team All-NSIC honors in 2007.

Laughlin, a second baseman from Eden Prairie, Minn., earns all-conference honors for the first time in his career.  He currently leads SMSU in batting with a .389 average with 10 doubles and one home run while ranking second on the squad with 34 RBI.  

Pick, a left-handed starting pitcher from Luverne, Minn., finished the regular season 5-1 with a 4.76 ERA while earning all-conference accolades for the first time.  Pick appeared in nine games with eight starts tossing 45.1 innings allowing 24 earned runs while striking out 32 batters.

SMSU finished the regular season 24-18 overall, 14-12 NSIC, good for fourth place in the NSIC standings.  SMSU opens play in the NSIC tournament today, May 8, in Wayne, Neb., as the fourth seed taking on third-seeded Concordia at 4 p.m.
