MARSHALL, MINN. -
Division III and No. 9-ranked Concordia of Moorhead had three wins by fall and a pair by major decision to defeat the Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team 33-12 in non-conference action Thursday night in Marshall.

Concordia improves to 7-1, while SMSU drops to 2-3 (1-1 NSIC).

Action started at 125 pounds where Concordia's Daron Hohbein managed to take a 14-2 decision from Ed Reno to put the visiting Cobbers up 0-4.

SMSU's Michal Barrie, however, would answer at 133 pounds, pinning Joe Leacox in 4:37.  The bout was scoreless until the second period when Barrie capitalized on his second take down and put the Mustangs ahead 6-4.

Concordia answered with a pin of its own in the ensuing bout as Ben Anderson was a winner by fall in 1:44 at 141 pounds against Jeremy Loch.  The Cobbers added another four points in the next bout at 149 pounds when Justin Berns took a 10-1 major decision from Garret Rozeboom.  Concordia held a 14-6 advantage.

SMSU's David Albrecht picked up another Mustang victory at 157 pounds, sneaking by Lane Lunde 6-4 to put the Mustangs within five points at 14-9.

The nationally ranked Cobbers went to work the next four bouts, racking up 17 team points.  At 165 pounds, Luke Vetsch blanked Nick Wulf for an 11-0 major decision.  Ross Dankers then posted an 11-4 decision over Nathan Krekelberg at 174 pounds.  The two Mustang losses were followed by a duo of wins by fall in favor of Concordia as Phil Moenkedick pinned Tyler Johnson in 6:32 at 184 pounds, and Anthony Neumann pinned Tyler Reed in 5:58 at 197 pounds.  The run put the Cobbers up 33-9.

Carter Ash finished the night with a victory for the Mustangs, winning his heavyweight bout 1-0.

The Mustangs were originally scheduled to wrestle at St. John's tomorrow; however, that dual has been postponed to a date to be determined.  SMSU is back in action on Jan. 30 when the squad travels to Minnesota State, Mankato for a 7 p.m. conference dual.
