Mustangs Capture Four Top-Three Finishes at NSIC Individual Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.
- The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team collected four top-three finishes at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Individual Championship this past weekend at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

Cailey Grupe was the top individual placer for SMSU.  She brought home a second-place finish at No. 3 singles.  The sophomore went 3-1 in the tournament and lost in the championship match to St. Cloud State's Kelly Freese 6-2, 6-0.

Trisha Baldwin was a third-place finisher at No. 4 singles.  She netted a 3-1 record on the weekend and was victorious over Augustana's Adrienne Conley in the third place match.

Baldwin and Grupe also teamed up for a successful tournament run at No. 2 doubles; the pair managed a runner-up finish.  The duo fell 9-7 in the championship match to SCSU's Kristie Eull and Dawn Olsen.

The No. 3 doubles pair of Danielle Hildebrandt and Angie Wiegmann charted a third-place finish.  They picked up a 8-4 win over Minnesota State's Cassanda Anderson and Carly Hiedeman.

SMSU finished the season with a 8-14 record and 5-6 in the NSIC.  The Mustangs captured a fourth-place finish at the NSIC team championship.
