Mustang Golf Squad Seventh After Round One

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - 
Southwest Minnesota State senior Abby Oakland shot a 7-over-par 79 and is currently tied for fifth place after round one of the NCAA Super Regional 3 Golf Championships at Westward Ho Country Club in Sioux Falls, S.D.

SMSU, making its sixth NCAA regional appearance in school history, shot a team score of 342 and is currently in seventh place in the nine-team tournament.  Concordia and Upper Iowa are tied for the team lead with scores of 313.

Rochelle Schmidt of Upper Iowa is the individual leader with a 3-under-par 69.

Oakland had one birdie, 11 pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys in her opening round on the 6,010-yard course.  It was her third sub-80 round score of the season and her first since Sept. 15, 2008.  Junior teammate Melissa Lackas is tied for 18th with an 11-over 83, while freshman KC Kane shot a 17-over 89 and is tied for 35th.  Kane entered the tournament averaging a team-low, 80.9 strokes per round and her score today of 89 tied for her worst round this season.

Sarah Baukol is tied for 41st with a 19-over 91, while Rachael Stoebe is tied for 43rd with a 20-over 92.

Round two of the 54-hole three round tournament begins on Tuesday morning.
