MARSHALL, Minn. -     The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball program hosted its inaugural summer camp on June 6, welcoming 30 players from states to SMSU's R/A Facility.  Campers ranged in age from 10- to 18-years-old.

The camp was led by SMSU head coach Paul Weiland, NWBA Hall-of-Famer Lew Shaver and current and past members of the SMSU wheelchairbasketball team.

“It was great to see all these young wheelchair athletes on our campus and to see their enthusiasm for the game and build on that,” said Weiland. “It was also amazing to see just how much they enjoyed our truly accessible campus."

Buildings off of the initial success of the inaugural camp, plans are already in the works to expand the camp into a two or three day overnight event next year. For more information on next year’s camp or any aspect of SMSU wheelchair basketball please contact Weiland at paul.weiland@smsu.edu.
