SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Southwest Minnesota State shot a second round score of 308, its lowest team score for one round in school history, to help finish in third place at the 36-hole, nine-team Augustana Invite at Bakker's Crossing G.C. in Sioux Falls, S.D. It was SMSU's first action of the 2009-10 season.
SMSU began the final round in third place after finishing with a 319 in the invite's first round on Saturday.
The previous school record was a round of 311 set at the Concordia Invite at Brooks, G.C., in Okoboji, Iowa, on Sept. 18, 2005.
SMSU sophomore
KC Kane fired a blistering 1-over-par 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for fourth place overall with teammate senior
Melissa Lackas, who carded a solid 3-over-par 75 on Sunday. The two players finished the tournament with scores of 12-over-par 154.
Freshman Krista Weiszhaar tied for 12th place overall with a 16-over 158, while junior
Sarah Baukol ended the tournament in 17th place at 19-over-par (161). Weiszhaar shot a 10-over 81 on Sunday, while Baukol was 9-over with a round of 80. Junior
Stephanie Bruns tied for 43rd place overall (+40, 180) to round out the top five players for SMSU.
Three freshman played as individuals for SMSU with
Haley Gudim finishing in 51st place (+46, 188),
Sarah Wahlstrom in 58th place (+63, 205) and Katelyn Schwartz in 61st place (+90, 232).
SMSU will continue play next Sunday and Monday at the Concordia University Invite at Tartan G.C. in St. Paul.
