MARSHALL, Minn. - The Brown team took game one of Southwest Minnesota State's annual Brown and Gold World Series on Monday at Alumni Field, winning 13-3 over the Gold team. The fall classic is a best-of-five series. Game two will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Junior left-hander
Curtis Smith earned the victory on the mound tossing four innings with nine strikeouts while allowing four hits and one run.
The Brown team smacked 13 hits in the game with sophomore
Josh Wendland and redshirt freshman
Chris Eichten each collecting three hits.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, junior Cody Curry belted a home run for the Brown squad to tie the game and with the game still tied in the fifth at 1-1, the Brown team opened the game up with a seven-run fifth and never looked back in earning the game one victory.
The Gold team was led by junior Tyler Jendro, who finished with two hits, while redshirt freshman
Tyler Flattum belted a two-run home run.
