Roehl Named NSIC Player of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State University junior forward Scott Roehl has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week for his performance in two SMSU victories last week.  The announcement came Monday morning from the NSIC office in St. Paul.

Roehl is the first Mustang player to earn conference player of the week honors since Jan. 21, 2008.

Roehl, a 6-foot-7, 227-pound, native of Princeton, Minn., recorded two double-doubles in victories over Wayne State on Feb. 24 and Northern State on Feb. 27.  Roehl averaged 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 69.2 percent (10 of 13) from the field and 8 of 10 from the free throw line.  He scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 70-69 home win over Wayne State and then followed that up scoring a team-high 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in a 56-51 road victory versus Northern State.  Roehl leads the team with six double-doubles this season.

Roehl leads SMSU in both scoring (13.3) and rebounding (8.2) this season and is shooting 49 percent (127 of 259) from the field and 66.3 percent (53 of 80) from the free throw line.

SMSU concluded the regular season with a 15-11 overall record and tied for sixth place in the NSIC standings with a 10-10 record.  The Mustangs, the No. 8 seed, will open the NSIC/Sanford Health Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, March 3, in Mankato, Minn., taking No. 1 seed Minnesota State, Mankato.
