Swenson and Schrader Named Academic All-District

MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University senior baseball players Derick Swenson and Adam Schrader were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V, the College Sports Information of Directors announced Friday.

Swenson was named second team, while Schrader was named third team.  District V consists of NCAA Division II and Division III schools from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Swenson, a center fielder from Alexandria, Minn., carries a 3.73 GPA in business management/finance.  Swenson has started all 44 games this season and is batting .333 with 15 doubles, five home runs and eight stolen bases. Swenson is a three-time Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honoree.

Schrader, a pitcher from Easton, Minn., boasts a 3.57 GPA in agriculture business.  Schrader, the school's all-time leader in strikeouts and games started, is 5-4 this season with a team-low 3.37 ERA.  Named first team All-NSIC on Thursday, he has tossed a team-high 69.1 innings and also has recorded a team-high 57 strikeouts.  Schrader is a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree.

Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America® programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Swenson, Schrader and the rest of the SMSU baseball team return to action on Friday at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament versus St. Cloud State in an elimination game starting at 3:30 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn.
