MARSHALL, Minn. - Former Southwest Minnesota State University baseball players
Adam Schrader and
Andrew Kinney have nearly completed their first month of professional baseball. Both players finished their SMSU careers this past season.
Schrader, who was drafted in the 39th round by the San Diego Padres, has had an outstanding start to his professional career. Schrader, a right-handed pitcher, has appeared in five games for the Arizona League Padres, making three starts and has a league-leading 1.61 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched. He is 2-0 with 24 strikeouts and just five walks, while allowing four earned runs.
Kinney, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Indians, is playing first base and designate hitter for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the Class A New York-Penn League. Kinney has played in 20 of the team's 27 games and is batting .187 with 14 hits in 75 at bats with two doubles, 11 runs scored and two RBIs.
