SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State junior
Hannah Palmeter became the first Mustang runner to earn a first place finish at the Division II level on Friday winning the St. Cloud State Invite at Wapicada Golf Course.

Palmeter won the 6k race with a time of 21:18.8, six seconds ahead of Minnesota Duluth's Breanna Colbenson. Prior to today, no SMSU runner--either male or female--had won a cross country race since the program was reinstated in 2012.

SMSU finished in fifth place out of seven teams with 133 points. UMD won the team title with 24 points.

Savannah Ramirez placed 32
nd for the Mustangs with a time of 23:55, while
Kristen Weber finished 46
th overall with a time of 24:32.

On the men's side, SMSU finished fifth out of six teams with 156 points. UMD won the men's title with 20 points.

Evan Bonneson (27:17 and Ben Broze (21:21) were the top two finishers for the Mustangs in the 8k race, crossing the line in 41
st and 42
nd place respectively. Alex Solheim crossed in 48
th place with a time of 27:54.

Both Southwest Minnesota State teams will return to action on Oct. 24 for the NSIC Championships in Minneapolis.
