DES MOINES, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams started competition today at the prestigious 107
th Drake Relays held at Drake Stadium.
SMSU also had athletes competing the last two days at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College.
In action today, the SMSU men's 4x200 relay team of
Matt Konrad,
Zach Jones,
Dallin Finley and
Ben Ryan set a school record with a time of 1:30.55 to place 12
th overall in the college division.
The SMSU women's 4x400 relay team of
Kim Shabino,
Eisha Oden,
Nya Buom and
Sarah Mayfield also had a strong day, setting a new school record with a time of 3:55.31 to finish 24
th in the college division.
Will Hanson ran the 110 meter hurdles in the university/college Division and placed 24
th overall with a time of 14.87.
At the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday,
Alex Weis finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 15.45m. On Thursday, Weis finished fourth in the hammer throw 54.38m.
Ashanti Payne also competed on Thursday and placed 12
th in the discus with a mark of 42.04m.
Chris Kveseth had a strong run in the 800 meters on Friday recording a 10
th place finish at 1:55.64.
SMSU will have athletes competing tomorrow at the Drake Relays as well as the Drake Alternative at Gustavus.
