Women's Cross Country

SMSU women's cross country finishes 12th, men's team 15th at Augustana Twilight

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's cross country teams opened its season on Friday competing at the sixth annual Augustana Twilight at Yankton Trails Park.
 
On the men's side, SMSU finished 15th of 22 teams in the College Division, recording 397 points. Blake Wooten led the Mustangs in the four-mile race with a time of 20:24 to finish 52nd, while teammate Kelly Fitzsimmons recorded a 69th place finish with a time of 20:40.
 
Augustana University took first place with 32 points.
 
On the women's side, SMSU placed 12th out of 20 teams in the College Division, recording 315 points. Winona State earned the team title with 84 points.
 
Hannah Palmeter led the way for the Mustangs with a ninth place finish out of 228 runners in the three-mile race, crossing the line with a time of 17:17. Kayla Jansky finished with the second fastest time for SMSU placing 43rd with a time of 18:01, while Kristin Weber closed the race in 98th place with a time of 19:08.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will have the next two weekends off before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, competing at the Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota.
