MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's outdoor track & field teams had two solid days competing at the 10-team NSIC/MIAA Showdown hosted by Northwest Missouri State on Friday and Saturday.
For the SMSU men's team,
Josh Behning won the discus on Saturday with a personal best and NCAA provisional mark of 49.72m, while
Alex Weis finished fourth in the at 45.11m.
Weis took home third place in the shot put with a toss of 15.64m, while Behning had a personal best 14.46m to place seventh.
Weis also had an outstanding toss in the hammer on Friday, recording a second place finish with an NCAA provisional toss of 54.35m.
Hamilton Mateski had a strong day in the javelin with a throw of 46.26m to earn second place honors.
Gabe Galamue advanced to the finals in the 100 meters and finished in seventh place with a time of 10.9.
The SMSU men's 4x100 relay team of
Gabe Galamue,
Matt Konrad,
Dallin Finley and
Ben Ryan, ran an impressive 42.0 to earn fourth place.
Dallin Finley ran 22.07 in the 200 meters to finish in seventh place.
On the women's side,
Kim Shabino continued her great start to the outdoor season with a school record 12.08 in the 100 meters to finish in third place and then earned a third place finish in the 200 meters with a school-record time of 24.68.
Kayla Jansky ran a personal best 4:56.30 in the 1,500 meters to finish in fourth place.
In the 800 meters,
Sarah Mayfield crossed the line in 2:21.32 to finish eighth.
Angela Prokosch just missed advancing to the finals of the hammer throw, but did set a school record with a toss of 44.65m.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to the track this Thursday at the Northern State Twilight in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
