SMSU Duo Honored by NSIC

MARSHALL, MINN - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Monday that Southwest Minnesota State middle blocker Devin Diedrich has been named offensive player of the week and Sara Graf has been named setter of the week.

Diedrich, a 6 foot freshman, killed 28 balls (4.00/set) in two matches to lead No. 4 SMSU to two conference wins this past weekend against No. 20 Augustana and No. 23 Wayne State.  Diedrich hit a stellar .480 on Friday against Augie.

The Braham, Minn., native also had four blocks and a service ace on the weekend, helping SMSU grab sole possession of second place in the NSIC with the two victories.

Graf, a 5-foot 10 junior from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, compiled 99 assists (14.14/set) in two matches to help SMSU to the pair of conference victories over the weekend.

Graf's 58-assist performance Saturday against Wayne State turned out to be a milestone for the setter.  Not only did she surpass the 1,000-assist mark for the season, she also moved into the No. 3 spot at SMSU in career assists, surpassing Jill Dauenhauer's 3,179 career assists.  Graf now has 3,181 assists in her tenure as a Mustang.  She also recorded two kills, five digs, two service aces and two blocks on the weekend.

This is the second time this season that Graf has earned setter of the week honors.  She is currently fourth in assists in the NSIC with 597 (11.26/set) in conference matches, while her 23 aces (0.43/set) is good for second.

The Mustangs are on the road for a Halloween weekend double header this week, taking on No. 18 Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Bemidji State on Saturday.
