FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.: Host and No. 24 Nova Southeastern held No. 12 Southwest Minnesota State to a .180 hitting percentage en route to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-20, 27-25) over the Mustangs at the Nova Southeastern Classic.
SMSU moves to 1-1 on the season, while NSU improves to 2-0.

Laura Hegerle led the Mustangs with 12 kills and 14 digs. Hegerle, however, had just a .114 hitting percentage, as her 12 kills came off of 35 attack attempts. Senior

The Mustangs controlled the tempo for much of the first set, but the Sharks took control in the second set, hitting .462 with 14 kills.
SMSU had just 12 combined kills in sets two and three, and its hitting woes continued into set four.
The Mustangs fell behind by as many as five in the fourth and final set, but SMSU did manage to rally and take the Sharks to a 25-27 decision.
Five true freshman saw the floor for the Mustangs, with as many as four of them on the floor at a time for SMSU.
The Mustangs play two more matches tomorrow as they take on the University of Puerto Rico-Piedras at 9 a.m. and Dowling (N.Y.) at 12 p.m. Both match times are Eastern Standard Time.
