LEXINGTON, Ky.- Southwest Minnesota State has moved down just one spot to No. 2 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll that was released on Monday afternoon.
SMSU (21-2, 13-2 NSIC) drops one spot this week after falling in four sets to previous No. 2 and this week's No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym.
The Mustangs have now been ranked in the Top 25 for 157 consecutive polls, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006, and have made it into the Top 10 for 61 consecutive polls. SMSU has also been ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in every poll so far this season.
No. 1 CSP earned 40 first place votes and 1,191 total adjusted points after going 2-0 on the road at SMSU and USF last weekend.
No. 7 Northern State moves up two spots from last week after 3-0 wins over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth over the weekend.
No. 9 Minnesota Duluth drops out of the nation's top-five teams following a weekend in which it suffered losses on the road to MSU Moorhead and Northern State.
No. 15 Winona State improved two spots after defeating both Augustana and Wayne State over the weekend. No. 16 Augustana dropped just one spot from last week's poll after its 3-0 loss to WSU and a 3-2 win over Upper Iowa.
No. 22 Wayne State dropped just two spots despite an 0-2 weekend with losses at WSU and Upper Iowa. No. 25 Upper Iowa finally cracked the nation's top-25 to make it eight schools from the Northern Sun in this week's poll.
Sioux Falls also received votes again this week to again make it nine NSIC schools receiving votes in this week's AVCA Top-25.
Southwest Minnesota State, which has a 9-2 record against ranked opponents this year including a 4-1 record against top-10 teams, will look to get back to its winning ways as it hosts Sioux Falls on Tuesday night at 6 p.m., followed by weekend road matches at No. 9 UMD and St. Cloud State.
