Reiss named AVCA National Player of the Week for second time this season

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Southwest Minnesota State junior outside hitter Taylor Reiss has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday.
 
It's the third time Reiss has earned the weekly national award in her career and the second time this season.
 
Reiss, a native of Taunton, Minnesota, helped lead SMSU to the championship title of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament this past weekend in St. Paul, Minnesota. Reiss racked up 97 kills over three tournament matches while hitting .417 on 204 total attacks. She also had 34 digs and eight block assists in earning NSIC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.  
 
Reiss had 31 kills and hit .518 in SMSU's 3-1 victory over Upper Iowa in the tournament quarterfinals. In SMSU's 3-2 semifinal victory over Augustana, Reiss set a school record with 41 kills while hitting .367. She closed the week racking up 25 kills with a .397 hitting percentage in SMSU's 3-0 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in the championship match.
 
Reiss, the 2017 NSIC Player of the Year, has a team-high 578 kills on the season with a .308 hitting percentage. She also has recorded 342 digs, 71 blocks and 21 service aces. 
 
Southwest Minnesota State, ranked No. 2 in this week's AVCA Top 25, will host the NCAA Central Region Tournament on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. SMSU, the tournament's top-seed, will face No. 8 seed Arkansas Tech on Nov. 30 starting at 7:30 p.m.
