BURNSVILLE, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State volleyball players,
Megan Larson, and
Taylor Reiss were named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Setter of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week respectively after their performances at the Colorado Premier this past weekend in Denver, Colo.
Larson, a four year starter at setter for SMSU and a native of Minneota, Minn., also became the program's all-time leader in assists in the Mustangs' win on Friday night over No. 8 Ferris State.
Larson averaged 13.29 assists per set in the Colorado Premier Challenge this past weekend after recording 186 total assists to help SMSUÂ win the tournament for the first time in program in history. Larson had 55 assists in the Mustangs' win in the championship match over No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul.
Reiss, a native of Taunton, Minn., had 18 kills in the championship win over Concordia-St. Paul. During the 18-kill performance, Reiss surpassed the 1,000 career kill milestone becoming just the 14th player in program history to do so.
Reiss reached double-digit kills in all four matches over the weekend and averaged 4.0 kills per set on her way to being named the Colorado Premier Tournament MVP.
Reiss and Larson, both graduates of Minneota High School, were the only two Mustang players to make it to the Colorado Premier all-tournament team.
Southwest Minnesota State became the top-ranked Division II volleyball team in the nation this week after its 8-0 start to the season which is the best start to a season in program history.
The Mustangs will open NSIC play this Thursday as they travel to face Augustana on Thursday at 6 p.m.
